A compound bow is a type of bow that utilizes a single bowstring with length-wise (or bed) slots cut into it. The string is usually covered in material, such as rubber, to reduce friction. At the ends of the slots are pulleys or wheel assemblies attached to the limbs of the archer's bow and these transfer power from one end to the other. This bow is typically drawn when not on target while shooting an arrow. As such, they draw more smoothly than traditional bows and have less vibration which translates into improved accuracy over time. These bows are made with limbs spanning two or more feet that can sometimes be customized to fit the archer's height. The bowstring is usually made of either carbon fiber or fiberglass and is specialized to fit various types of arrows. These bows have become increasingly popular as a survival tool.
