A compound bow is a type of bow that utilizes a single bowstring with length-wise (or bed) slots cut into it. The string is usually covered in material, such as rubber, to reduce friction. At the ends of the slots are pulleys or wheel assemblies attached to the limbs of the archer's bow and these transfer power from one end to the other. This bow is typically drawn when not on target while shooting an arrow. As such, they draw more smoothly than traditional bows and have less vibration which translates into improved accuracy over time.
